The best way to show your skin some love is to understand exactly what it needs. Think you’re dealing with Oily and Resilient skin? Dive into our introductory guide to the six fundamental skin types to help identify what kind of skin you have.

To kick things off, here’s what it means to have Oily and Resilient skin. You have Oily skin if you’re producing (or possibly over-producing) plenty of oil. Without proper care, this oil can lead to clogged pores, acne flares, or greasy skin. Meanwhile, Resilient skin is the toughest type of skin there is.  Resilient skin will almost never suffer from redness, irritation, or rashes, and responds well to aggressive treatments and products.

How do I know if I have Oily and Resilient skin?

You probably have Oily and Resilient skin if:

  • About an hour after you wash your face, but before you put on any products, you skin feels normal or oily – not flaky or tight.
  • Your face is frequently shiny in pictures, but usually not red.
  • You may have many visible pores.
  • You have occasional acne, but do not struggle with it very often.
  • Trying new products doesn’t worry you – you almost never get red, itchy, or inflamed.
  • You have very few broken capillaries in your skin.
  • You rarely experience rashes or hives on your skin.

What should I know about my Oily and Resilient skin?

Congratulations – you’ve basically won the skin type lottery! Resilient skin is perfect for taking advantage of the active ingredients, products, and procedures that will keep your skin glowing and youthful. Meanwhile, that surplus of oil production ensures your skin won’t dry out while undergoing treatments. That’s not to say there isn’t maintenance to be done of course, but Oily and Resilient skin  is the easiest skin type to regenerate in a Medical Spa, and the simplest to maintain at home.

Is acne an issue for oily and resilient skin?

All types of oily skin are ultimately more acne-prone. But it’s easy to take care of, especially since you can use strong, medical grade products without fear of inflammation.

Make sure you’re using a light moisturizer, as well as a strong exfoliating treatment (usually with glycolic acid) to keep your pores clear. You’ll also want to use Retinols and Vitamin C for both acne prevention and anti-aging. Do NOT skip your Retinol! Retinols and Retin-A are the only family of molecules approved by the FDA to produce actual anti-aging results in the skin over time.
