Medical Microneedling started with a simple idea: “How can we get the best results with the smallest amount of downtime?”
Is microneedling at home the same as microneedling in a medical spa?
This couldn’t be further from the truth. The tools that we use at RESTOR can penetrate about 6-12 times deeper into the skin than the devices you can use at home – so you can expect results that are much more dramatic with our microneedling in Denver.
Does Microneedling hurt?
At RESTOR we apply a topical numbing cream, and you will not feel any discomfort during the procedure. Your skin may feel slightly tight and hot for a few hours after the procedure, but not painful. We also offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for pain control if you desire.
Who should do it?
Simply put – if you are aging you are a great candidate. Since microneedling doesn’t use heat and is totally mechanical, it’s safe for all skin colors and types. Just make sure there aren’t any inflamed or infected areas on your skin, and if you have a cystic acne breakout, wait until it clears up before coming in for your appointment.
We generally do not recommend microneedling for anyone with a history of Keloid scar formation, or who has had radiation treatments on the area of skin to be treated.
What areas on the body can be treated?
Microneedling isn’t exclusive to just the face area. The treatment can be done anywhere the skin on the body needs to be thickened, tightened or repaired. The most common problem areas for most patients are the neck and decollete, but it can also be done on stretch marks or scars anywhere on the body.
How often can I get it done?
This depends on the severity of the issue. If your skin is generally healthy and you receive regular medical grade skin care, a few sessions a year of our microneedling in Denver will be enough to hold most aging at bay. Someone with more advanced aging or acne scarring should plan to do one session per month for 4 to 6 months, with a few sessions a year for maintenance after that.
What conditions can be treated or improved with medical microneedling?
Medical microneedling treats a wide range of skin concerns – including:
- Acne scarring
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Tightening sagging skin around the eyelids and jowls
- Skin texture and pore size
- Stretch marks or surgical scars
What does the procedure involve?
The skin is cleaned and a prescription numbing cream is applied for about 30 minutes. Then the numbing cream is removed and the microneedling pen is passed over the skin. Patients sometimes feel a sensation of heat, or “buzzing”. This part of the procedure takes about 15 minutes. For better results, we use a collagen-stimulating product like Hyaluronic Acid or PRP immediately after the procedure.
What will I look like after the treatment?
Most people will experience redness and mild swelling similar to a bad sunburn for 24-48 hours. Depending on the depth of the treatment, there may be minimal pin-point bleeding and/or bruising. Skin usually returns to normal within 2 days, although dryness and mild flaking can continue for another few days. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend hyaluronic acid and a zinc-based sunblock. You can wear make-up 24 hours after the procedure.
How should I care for my skin after my medical microneedling treatment?
We recommend that you apply nothing to your face for at least 6 hours after your microneedling in Denver. After that – you can wash and moisturize with the post-care products we provide to you. You can apply makeup after 24 hours. To ensure the right healing environment, we recommend only a neutral cleanser and sunscreen for the first two days. Avoid “active” ingredients such as glycolic acid, retinol, or exfoliants until the redness has faded from the skin. Exposure to sun should also be avoided or zinc-based sunblock should be used. After three to four days you can resume your normal skincare regime.
When will I begin to see the results of my medical microneedling?
Most people will begin to see results within two weeks after the first appointment with continuous improvement for two months after the completion of their series. Scars respond more slowly than skin sagging, fine lines, and pore size. They also take more treatments to correct. It can take up to 6 months to 1 year to heal deep scars and severe stretch marks.
Can medical microneedling be performed on any skin color?
Unlike some lasers, medical Micro-needling is safe to use on all skin types and all skin colors.
How many treatments do I need?
Our microneedling in Denver can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For fine lines, we recommend starting with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 4 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction, an average of 6 treatments are recommended. The number of treatments required will depend on how each individual responds to the treatments, and the extent of the damage we are attempting to repair.
After you achieve your goals, we recommend maintenance treatments about once a quarter to maintain your results and prevent new lines from occurring.
Should I get medical microneedling or a laser treatment?
Medical Microneedling is considerably less costly than most resurfacing procedures, with less downtime. It can be performed on all skin types, including ethnic skin, and can be used on all areas of the face and body. This includes fragile skin, such as around the eyes, mouth and neck.
